Did you know that one in five people struggle to read proficiently?
Established in 2021, INSPIRE is a non-profit literacy program sponsored by GraceWay Church that supports students who struggle with literacy. Local tutors are trained in Orton-Gillingham method to provide effective, individualized instruction so students can master necessary reading, writing, spelling, speaking and listening skills (English Language Arts).
Each student receives nine weeks (three 45 minute sessions per week) of individual reading support by a trained reading tutor who will:
- Assess students to understand areas of struggle.
- Develop a focused instructional plan specific to each student’s needs.
- Monitor progress over the nine weeks and provide recommendations for continued growth.
- Collaborate regularly with a reading specialist.
How Can I Help?
In its first three years, this nine-week program reached 45 individuals (ages 6-46) in Sauk Prairie, Spring Green, Baraboo and Reedsburg because of generous financial support from donors. Assessments showed each student had literacy growth after completing the program.
